Has anyone noticed that the Landscape has changed? Aussie version

Well off we headed from Townsville Leisure park after a leisurely breakfast. We headed into town with a purpose in mind. Our friend Gilly has a friend here… so we were on a mission to bring greetings! And we did!

Gilly’s friend Veronica!

Then we headed down to the Strand, THE place in Townsville.

Then off we headed out of town

The stadium.

Then we continued our wander south. We watched as the landscape changed from tropical rainforest to Savanah to flat to hilly!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Love these trees
Crossing what should be a huge river… very dry

Then we headed for our first stop, in Ayr, home of the big snake…

Aka Big Snake

Then we headed off to find Charlie’s Hill

Constructed by the RAAF in 1943, the No 211 Radar Station on Charlie’s Hill was one of twenty radar installations along the North Queensland coastline. These operated to give an early warning of approaching enemy aircraft during World War II.

When visiting this historic site, igloos of reinforced concrete which provided bomb-proof protection for the radar equipment can still be seen. The wooden towers which supported the transmitting and receiving aerials have been removed. However, foundations from various structures near the igloos may still be found. The buildings are listed in the Queensland Heritage Register because of the site’s historical and military significance

It was very impressive, but then we headed down the road to the Inkerman Hill scenic lookout. Now that’s a hill!!

The drive up… before I closed my eyes!

The view!!!!
Enjoying the view.

We had lunch in the look out, there was a lovely breeze … as the car was a bit hot!

Hot car!

There was an alternative route up, instead of the drive…

We did not take this way!

Then we drove to our camp site for the next two days, Airlie Beach.

As is our routine (now) we set up camp, poured a drink, and headed to the pool.

On the way back from the pool (the drinks had run dry) we passed by where they feed the birds at 4 pm.

So I did!

Feeding my friend!
Then there were two!
Then the cockatoos came…
