Definitely the road less travelled

Today we headed out to Hyden, Western Australia a tiny town with one major claim to fame. Wave Rock.

There is not much between Perth and Hyden, so I looked to see what I could find.

I found a place called “Wandering”

So, of course, we had to go there!

How could we not get a selfie here?

The landscape was very dry, and reminiscent of Saskatchewan… or Manitoba.

From Wandering we headed down North Wandering Road, to the intersection of Ricks Road…

Again… how could we not stop?

we did have to travel down some red dirt roads, so now our little Red Corolla looks like a true Aussie car.. covered in red dust!

We then continued our way to Hyden… down a road definitely less travelled.

The road got smaller, and smaller, and smaller…

From two lanes with painted lines, to two lanes with no painted lines, to two lanes, just… to One lane and two large shoulders… to just plain dirt…

Not so clear lanes
Single lane…

We finally made it to Hyden… a definite one horse town… with Wave Rock.

Which was actually pretty impressive.

We then headed to our hotel… the only hotel in Town.

We first stopped at the pool and met a lovely couple from New Zealand, who shared their Western Australia travel experiences and we shared ours.

We then headed to the restaurant at the hotel (the only one in town). Where the menu is “interesting”. You can get five items from the menu (all include wheat products… so not for me) or you can buy some raw meat, and cook it yourself and have the sides from the Buffet… so we did!

We had a lovely evening with our new friends, sharing tales of our live’s journey.
