Albany, Perth’s Playground

Or

Is it bigger than a Shepherd’s hut?

After a so,so breakfast at our motel, we hit the road to explore Albany and area, as we had an AirBnb booked for the night only an hour up the road. First we headed downtown, and drove the waterfront. The title pic was taken on the Anzac Peace pier. A memorial for Submariners.

The pier
The bay, complete with herring, that is a pelican in the pic… looking for a snack.
Amity, was across the street

We then headed out to the playgrounds, along the Fisherman Bay Road, and first stop was Vancouver Peninsula.

Efelo beach.
We did not
Overlooking Fisherman Beach, towards Emu point
The pano

We then headed over to Torndirrup National park. At the next peninsula along the road.

We first headed to the end of Fisherman’s Bay, towards Misery Beach, and then Whalers cove

More stunning views along the way
Looking back to the mainland
Lovely little cove, someone was swimming
We wandered onto the rocks
And took a pic

Then to the end of the road, and salmon Beach

Then we continued back, stopping at the sights on the other side of the road…

First stop Jimmy Newells Harbour

Looking out
The lighthouse

From there we stopped at the most stunning spot… and the most “developed” for tourists…

But cool info

There was a cantilevered lookout… it was extremely hard for me to walk up onto it, and definitely could not look down as I walked.. as you could see through the grating on the floor.

The lookout
Looking down, in the gap
More stunning views

Then over to the Natural Bridge

The views the other direction from the bridge

After all the fresh air, we headed back to Albany, for lunch. At the oldest hotel in the oldest town in Western Australia (took this for you Clair)

The oldest hotel
The “proof”

Then it was on to our Bnb…

The refurbished Train carriage.

And yes, it’s bigger than a Shepard hut (for those of you who followed our UK adventure in April 2024)

Our digs
The view of the Stirling range.
They make Olive oil
The grove… with Dolly… she’s annoyed with me… more on that later
And fresh eggs!
Outback, the “retirement home” for the Chooks who don’t lay anymore… and a rooster 😳🐓

Then at 4 o’clock… the best part… we fed the animals at the farm.

The greedy sheep tried to get the food…
Me feeding them, the videographer was a bit excited too!
That’s Dolly, trying to get the food from me.. she thinks she is a Llama Bitter the Emu in the front, our host Stuart in the back
Elliot the Llama knows there is food comingA

After feeding the large critters we headed over to the Chooks (Aussie for Chickens) and collected some eggs and fed them.

Stewart, our host, told us he only has enough animals so that he can tend them all within 30 minutes walking. At precisely 4 pm every day, that’s why if he needs to get a minder when he goes away, its easy for them

Rick is now thinking that Chickens might not be a bad idea.. I knew I could convince him eventually

Then we fed the layers…

Turns out Stuart is retired navy… so Rick and he shared stories, and turns out knows some people in common… it’s a small world!

The evening at OneGum!
