Fremantle aka Freo

Not sure why they need to shorten Names and an O around here.

It appears that Aussies like their own little “slang” for things. All good… we do that in Canada too. (Two-four, double double, Toronnah, for example)

Today we were going to go to the Zoo.. but it was literally a Zoo there… we forgot it was summer Holiday… so every family with children under 12 were there. No parking for miles.. so we went with Plan B, and visited Fremantle.

Fremantle is one of first landing spots for Europeans in Western Australia, with the Dutch making landfall, exploring, documenting and sometime hitting the reefs… there is rich history, and wonderful old buildings and lovely architecture.

We first got our selfie, and wandered down the waterfront, with no plan in mind.

Our first stop was the old wharf.

The view from the place we ended up going back for lunch
Kraken!

We then wandered toward the Bathers Beach… which was previously a Whaling beach.

Bathers beach
Loving towards the lighthouse (previously shown in the Rottnest post)
The art gallery on the waterfront, unfortunately it was not open today 😦

We then wandered over to the oldest building of the old waterfront, the former Goal, and time Flag

Whalers tunnel, to move the whale “product” from the beach to the inland.
The city side view
The view of the tunnel, roundhouse and flagstaff from down High street
The Roundhouse, former Goal, now another place for artists.
The flagstaff
The cannon
The info about the Timeball and Gun
Info on the flags.. there was no 8th flag today
View back from where we came from the lookout

We then continued into the old city, and enjoyed the lovely old buildings.

We stopped at the Shipwreck Museum and learned about the many incidents, restorations, dives to recover, and explored the history of the area. Mutiny, bad navigation, and island survivors…

We then returned to Cicerello’sand had a lovely Seafood lunch.

Finally had a Bundaberg Ginger beer!
They had many aquariums!!
NEMO!!!!
