The City of Churches

And we did not go in to a single one!

I know, so not like us.

We took the train into town, we were once again pleased with the public transport system in this country, we did go to the mall to buy a metro card, but as it turns out, you could buy tickets on the train. But hey, now we have a souvenir.

We giggled at Brighton, we had been watching a show last night that was set in Brighton
The Shiny train!

We got out at the Main Railway station, Adelaide, and set out to find the Anglican Cathedral.

After a few false starts, the phone was confused with the buildings, we finally headed in the right direction.

The conference centre

We crossed the Torrens River over a lovely foot bridge, which offered great views of the Skyline: a much shorter one than the other cities.

The “paper boats”

On the other side we circled around the Oval, the cricket grounds.

The old entrance

There was an interesting monument to the first people who flew from England to South Australia, who, as it turns out a famous Cricketer was named after… hence the Monument, Keith and Ross Smith. In fact the Landrover on tbe Pole is in the town named after Keith!

The monument

We rounded the corner and our destination came into view

The Anglican Cathedral

We strolled along the park edge toward the Cathedral, only to find it closed up, we were not the only tourist to be hoping for a walk through. But it’s all ok, we plan to worship here tomorrow.. this was all a reconnaissance anyway, we confirmed the times!

We then returned to the railway station… the very long way!

We first headed to a different bridge to cross the river

We then wandered through Elder Park, where they were setting up for Australia Day activities.

Another playground

We rested for a bit in the shade on the side of the river, and people and bird watched… and were watched back by the birds.

We then headed into the city to view the sights.

But first we had to navigate the scooters
Obviously can’t read!

Street views

Our feet tired and our body’s weary, we finally returned to the train station and caught our train back to our Airbnb.

Steep ramp!

Not a single church was entered… and we totally forgot to take a single selfie!
