Boy, we love Trains! (and churches)

We explored Goulburn today. We will not be here on Sunday so we had to start our trip with a visit to the Cathedral.

Before Canberra was selected as the Capital, the town of Goulburn was the Center of business for the region, so the Cathedral was built here, making it a city. Even though small. When Canberra was selected as capital, the RC’s built a new Cathedral there, but the Anglicans kept theirs here. (apparently the current Bishop resides in Canberra, and the offices have moved.. but the Cathedral remains.)

The tower.. rebuilt a few times.. still no steeple
The lovely organ pipes… that were moved due to fire in the organ.
They were in the back. The roof burnt, and was replaced, and organ relocated to front
More pipes
Another daunting pulpit
The stone apparently came from New Zealand.
Loved the baptismal font
Where the church mice come in!

We then headed over the Big Merino! The landmark as you enter town.

The big sheep

Inside the Merino is a little museum telling of the history of the Sheep and Wool trade in Australia, starting with the first Fleet.

You could also go up to the top of the Merino… so I did

View from the right eye
The inside of the head!
The start of the info… did not take pics of all the info
Recognize these???

From there we headed to the Goulburn Heritage Rail Centre!

A good day!

Oh, and we like sheep too!
