Today was an epic day… and I can’t believe that there will be more tomorrow.
First…. You need to understand I have profound fear of heights. In fact today… at one point my eyes were closed. My hands in front of my eyes… and I was in tears. I was so stressed. But, once at the bottom, I said “that was awesome”
So… we started the day in Whataroa, and made our way to Franz Josef/Waiho. Where the Glaciers are… well… there are many, but this is where we visited one. We went to the helo services recommended by our AirBnb host, and booked for 12:30… we had an hour to kill, and it was subject to the pilots assessment… which was still TBD… so we headed to a walking trail, to get a land view.

Then we headed back to catch our helicopter. It was a go!
The ride took us over where we had been walking then up to the Glacier itself. We landed, and took pictures. The family that was with us made a wee snowman!
It was a mountaintop experience!

From there we continued our journey, down the west coast, making our way to coast views, at Knight Point, where we had a late lunch, and waited for the construction queue to shorten.

Along we traveled… thinking that we had seen the best of the best… but no, as we swung inland, towards Queenstown, we had to pass through the mountains, and past some stunning mountain lakes! (not too many of the mountains, I was driving, Rick was snoozing, recovering from the morning activities!)

But: you can’t always stay in the mountaintop experience, you eventually have to come down… and down we came. The steep descent was stunning, but the road was extremely narrow. With zero shoulder to the plummet below.. I tried to look, but had to squeeze my eye shut as Rick negotiated the curves. This is where the tears happened… but it was still amazing!

We arrived at our Bnb, with the best views!

We tucked in for the night… dreaming of tomorrows adventure
