Today we headed out to the Milford Sound, formally know as Milford Haven, The drive is fairly long, so we decided to take a Coach, Cruise, Coach tour. About 12-13 hours. Long day. Started early.
The drive out of Queenstown, was challenging for the driver. There is really only one main road through town. And it was under construction! Of course.
After 45 minutes of stop and go, we finally cleared the town, and began the long and windy road.
First Kingston, then Garston, then Athol, then … well you get the picture…

Then we arrived at Te Anau, the “last civilization” before Fiordland. Well, it used to be, they now have added a cell town out in Milford Sound, so not so cut off.

The town is about 2 hours from Queenstown, and there was another 2+ hours to go, so the driver needed a half hour break, and we need to stretch our legs, and see the sights of Te Anua.
Off we headed to that majical lands of Milford Sound.

First stop…the field where the “misty scene” from Lord of the rings was filmed

Then we headed to Mirror lakes… which where not like Mirrors, as there was a breeze

Then we continued the journey

We stopped for a short break and Monkey Creek, not because there are monkeys in New Zealand, but “according to the driver” the surveyor had a dog called Monkey… and he fell into the creek… hence the name.🫤
Apparently very clear, drinkable glacier water… so he encouraged everyone to fill their water bottles.. so of course, they did!

We then continued to the Main event: A two hour cruise on the Maiden of Milford

A fabulous day! With fabulous views!
Another epic day.
Our driver, Brendon, and his trusty stuffies, Kiwi and Takahe, drove us safely back the four hour drive.

We were dropped off at the bottom of the hill at 8:45 pm. I climbed the 110 steps, to the airbnb, to get the car, and pick up Rick and his extremely tired knee.

We fell into bed exhausted. But full of great memories!
