The last long drive down under.

Yesterday we drove from KariKari, back to Auckland. Our last major drive down under.

We took a slightly different drive than the one we took on the way north. And the weather was definitely better.

We did get some lovely views, but there were not as many places to stop to take pictures… but we did get a few

Leaving Karikari
Coastal peek

We stopped for a picnic in a small town called Hikurangi, which is just north of Whangarei. We found a lovely little reserve, which was a former Limestone quarry, which started to flood. So they turned it over to the town as a recreation reserve.

Very lovely
Families were there as it was Saturday… these girls were catching little fish.
We did stop at one lookout… looking back at the Bream Head, the tip of Whangarei Heads,Where we had stayed a few nights earlier.

We made it to Auckland, later in the day. Found our Last Airbnb, did our shopping for the four days that we will be here, and relaxed for the evening.

Today was a busy day… Sunday! We drove into the City for the service at the Cathedral, it was a 20 minute drive, which is not bad for the far west edge of ‘the publish Burbs!

The Cathedral is another “modern” building, with the old church, attached. They moved the old building across the road. In one piece! After the new cathedral was completed.

The old church… big to move in one peice

We did not take too many pics. As we plan to go back and play tourist tomorrow

Inside
Love the mix of clear glass and stain glass.
And a choir!!!
It’s not a cathedral unless it’s covered in scaffolding!! Lmao

We then met up with friends that we had met in Western Australia, at Wave rock!

They took us out to lunch at The old Pah homestead… the building now houses a cafe, and art gallery.

The garden was also full of art. Including one piece that was created by our friend’s daughter’s fiancé!
