A day in Auckland

Seeing the sights.

We decided to drive into the CBD, the train ride would have been an hour and half, and we felt that driving in Auckland is similar to Ottawa, a big city, but not too big.

So off we headed, our goals for the day, the tower, and see the harbour.

Closer in

We found a parking lot halfway between the two. :). Only issue, parking in CDB is not cheap! $44 for 4 hours!

We headed to the tower, as we walked up the street I noticed that the Maple trees were starting to turn red… 150 days ago, we went to the tower in Seattle, and the leaves were turning red…if you remember my mini painting of that day 😉

Seattle, 5 months ago
Auckland…. Note the red leaves.

Up we headed…

Selfie first!
Every tower has this! Lmao!
And glass floors.. those are my feet!
The harbour
There are three viewing platforms. 51, 53 and 60th floor (not that there are floors 2-49 🙂

We headed down after an ice-cream and walked to harbour..

Harbour. The Ferry Building in middle, in foreground is the Harbour ferry, we are doing that tomorrow
From Queen street

We, as usual, sought out the gems of heritage architecture, nestled amongst the sky scrapers

Loved the details in this one
The Shakespeare pub, the Oldest brewery pub in New Zealand.. self proclaimed… took this pic for Clair!

Once we got back to the car, we decided we still had enough energy for a return trip to the Cathedral. Unfortunately, Due to lack volunteers, (age old story) the old St Mary’s church was not open for viewing today. But we were able to really get to see the cathedral!

My favourite space was the last addition, the Selwyn Chapel. Named after the first Bishop of New Zealand, who had the vision to purchase the land back in 1843. His vision was not realized until 1950’s and not finished until 2017!

Stunning space!
The view of the harbour from the chapel!

Another stellar day!
