Home on the Range

Wow! North Dakota… definitely big sky country, and more.

We began our day in Bismarck, North Dakota. As we were at the other end of the time zone, the sun had not risen when we were ready to move.

A brief breakfast, with an unfortunate, unintentional political discussion with the hotel breakfast staff… we headed out for gas at the Costco.

We are amazed at the lack of people at Costco. In Ottawa, no matter what time you go to fill up, there is a line.. sometimes very short, but usually you have to wait a bit. Not our experience here

Empty Costco gasoline.

We then headed west and left the city as the sun was just rising. The views of the Missouri River, were lovely.

We suddenly remembered that we forgot our selfie, so we stopped at the first rest stop. Sweet Briar Lake

The selfie!

Turns out there is a limit to the number of some letters and K’s are not many!

We drove along enjoying the prairie views. Which although are similar to Manitoba and Saskatchewan, are quite different.

There are number of hills… more than Canada. Not So flat..

A few lonely, abandoned homes, I will be painting this one. Some day…

Right after we commented about the lack of rigs…, the Oil Rigs appeared!

The North Dakota landscape was stunning.. and we just keep taking pictures

We finally reached Montana

My tiny painting of the day was a representation of the landscape of the day. Badlands

We arrived at our amazing Motel, Bozeman, Montana, The Sapphire, resplendent in its modern 50’s charm

Outside the lobby
an old tv played in black in white in the background
Gotta love the old typewriter in the “business Center”

Our room was equally delightful

Hey! We have the exact same model at home!

After settling with a cocktail in our vintage glasses, we headed out for dinner.

The Bourbon
The bar… we sat the other side on the bar. On a long table. (Picture from yelp)

We found a true Montana BBQ joint, the Bourbon and we’re not disappointed. Rick had Ribs, with Fries and baked beans and Gillian had Brisket with Smoked green beans and potato salad.

It was more than yum! Too good to take pictures of, apparently!

An evening in our motel room, quietly catching up on the social media of the day!
